James Climenhage (vocals, acoustic guitar, 6-string banjo)

James began playing guitar at age 13 and writing songs at age 15. He has been playing in southern rock, country, and folk bands in Eastern and Western Canada since 1989. James started Milltown Philosophers in 2018 to build a band with simple complexity and a creative bluegrass/newgrass sound.

Laurie Rathier (vocals)

Laurie is a versatile musician hailing from the Ottawa Valley. With her start onstage at the age of 9, Laurie's musical journey led her to British Columbia at age 19. From her involvement in local bands where she paid homage to iconic acts, to her ability to effortlessly traverse genres ranging from classical to country, hard rock to newgrass, Laurie's artistry knows no bounds. Her original compositions and memorable performances have solidified her status as a gifted and diverse vocalist who offers Milltown Philosophers gorgeous harmonies and arrangements.

Adam Johnson (fiddle)

Adam began playing fiddle when he was four, and grew up playing with the BC Old Time Fiddler's association. At age six he entered his first fiddle competition, In 2015 Adam placed 1st in the BC Provincial Fiddle Championships, and placed 12th in the Canadian nationals the same year. In 2016 he placed 4th in the Grand North American championships. His musical experience is deeply rooted in Canadian Old Time, Celtic, Metis, Western Swing and country.

Corry Climenhage (vocals, banjo-ukelele)

Corry grew up on the prairies singing three-part-harmony hymns, gospel, and bluegrass tunes at family gatherings. With 25 years experience playing in bands around the world, in addition to her diploma in jazz vocals and an MA in music education, Corry brings a schooled yet creative approach to the arrangements and vocal harmonies. The styles that have influenced her the most include roots reggae, choral, and classic folk.

Barry McKillican (upright bass)

Barry has a passion for bass and guitar, and has recently delved into the world of standup bass, discovering a newfound love for it! Embracing a wide range of musical genres, from light jazz to rock and pop, he finds joy in exploring everything in between.
